Chamarajanagar in to existence on 15th Agust 1997 as a district came gift of Golden Independence Festival Day. A dream of the people of this part for several decades came true. In order to find answers to all the questions about the pros and cons of the formation of new districts, what should be the district headquarters, the government has formed several committees like Vasudevarao Samiti, Hundikar Samiti, Gaddigowda Samiti etc. created Their reports were published. District Struggle Committees were formed in many parts of the state. People and delegations from different parts of the
state went to meet the elders of the state and submitted requests. As a result of all this, the government finally announced seven new districts in 1997. Chamarajanagar district of four taluks also came into existence.
In fact, Chamarajanagar of Chamarajanagar Parliamentary Constituency, T. narasipura, Nanjangudu, Yalanduru, Kollegala and Gundlupete towns were to come under this district. At that time, Mysore district had 5 taluks and Chamarajanagar district had 6
taluks and in a sense equality was coming. But unfortunately due to the narrow mind of the leaders only four taluks (Chamarajanagar, yalandur, Gundlupet and Kollegala) were formed into the district. Let’s hope that the rest of the two taluks will be joined sooner or later. People celebrated vijayotsava on August 15. Chief Minister J. H. Patel inaugurated
the new district. MLA Vatal Nagaraj and his fans expressed their gratitude by garlanding Chief Minister Patel. Chief Minister Patel’s victories and defeats, good and bad, no matter what. It is undisputed that the achievement of the creation of these seven districts should go to Chief Minister Patel alone. On the same day, the district collector’s office was inaugurated by deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah and MLA A.R. Krishnamurthy. Former governor became the elder and leader of this part. Rachaiah president over this function.
